Application Period Opens for 2024-25 Property Tax Postponement Program

October 3, 2024

The Property Tax Postponement (PTP) program enables homeowners who are seniors, blind, or have a disability to have their property tax payments paid by the State Controller’s Office (SCO). To recoup the costs of the property tax payments, the State Controller’s Office (SCO) will place a lien against the property that will be satisfied, with interest, when the homeowner sells or refinances their home. The PTP exists to ensure that certain homeowners can remain in their home if they are unable to afford their annual property tax payment. To be eligible, homeowners must meet certain criteria, including having at least 40% equity in their home and $53,574 or less in yearly household income.

The 2024-25 Property Tax Postponement Application period opened on October 1, with applications due February 10, 2025. Applications will be processed in the order received starting October 1. Only one application may be submitted per household.

The SCO has created an outreach toolkit to help share information about the program to those who may be unaware. The materials include sample social media messages, large and small flyers in Spanish, Chinese, and Tagalog; and free social media graphics.
