The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) recently
launched a
bi-monthly newsletter on the progress being made to implement
California’s new foster care tiered rate structure.
Earlier this year, California became the first state in the
nation to restructure foster care rates based on a child’s needs
and strengths, as identified by the Child and Adolescent Needs
and Strengths (CANS) Assessment, rather than placement type.
Payments under the new
Permanent Foster Care Rate Structure will begin on July 1,
2027. The newsletter will serve to keep stakeholders
updated on efforts over the next two and a half years leading up
to full implementation, as well as share opportunities for
stakeholder engagement through various working groups and
listening sessions.
