CSAC hosted its second Disaster Recovery Summit and
Roundtable with the Governor’s Office, CAL OES and FEMA to
discuss disaster relief and recovery in the 13 northern and
southern California counties impacted by the terrible 2017 fire
season. The meeting, on February 16 was very productive and
allowed for staff from all the fire-impacted counties to share
their stories with key disaster relief administrators.
The discussion ranged from updates by CAL OES and FEMA
and the leads of the various task forces for disaster relief
issues to the announcement of a new disaster advisory working
group at CSAC. There was genuine excitement by many in the room
at the enthusiasm and commitment by county leadership to turn a
clear tragedy into an opportunity to improve the lives of future
Californians who will inevitably have to deal with the “new
normal” of climate change-induced disasters.
