February 20, 2025

The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) released the California Opioid Settlements Annual Expenditures Report and local expenditure reports on February 19, 2025. The statewide report offers a comprehensive overview of opioid settlement and bankruptcy payments and expenditures for State Fiscal Year 2022-23, as well as statewide and local efforts in addressing the opioid crisis. The individual city and county expenditure reports offer a detailed summary of their specific payments and expenditures that were used to compile information for the statewide report.

DHCS will host a meeting on February 26th from 1:00-3:00 pm to discuss the details of the Opioid Settlements Annual Expenditures Report. This meeting will review the purpose of the annual report, provide a high-level review of allowable expenditures under the settlement and bankruptcy agreements, offer details on how funds were appropriated for state projects, and summarize how funds were spent on local initiatives by cities and counties. A portion of the meeting will be dedicated to a Q&A, allowing attendees to ask questions about the report. DHCS encourages participating cities and counties to register for this meeting to learn more about California’s efforts and the impactful use of settlement funds statewide.
