Lived Experience Stakeholder Engagement Kick-Off Event

June 13, 2019

The Council of Criminal Justice and Behavioral Health (CCJBH), is hosting a kick-off event for the Lived Experience Stakeholder Engagement process. The process will begin this summer and continue into the winter, culminating in an RFP to award competitive grants, as well as written summary reports and possible recommendations for future activities. Attached is the draft agenda.

The 2018-19 Budget Act provided CCJBH with on-going funding to award contracts to stakeholders for the purpose of reducing justice-involvement (incarceration, recidivism, etc.) for individuals experiencing mental health challenges. Following the spirit of Mental Health Services Act funding, CCJBH will engage stakeholders and elicit input from diverse populations including consumers, family members, administrators, providers and other subject matter experts, especially those with lived experience, to provide their first-hand perspectives on how the funding could best serve its intended purposes. The cumulative results of the stakeholder engagement process will be documented in a report which will provide the direction for current and future funding opportunities.

The kick-off event is targeting policy makers and program administrators who are subject matter experts in the criminal justice and behavioral health fields, and likely are affiliated with a key constituency such as consumers of mental health services or providers of reentry services.  Attendees will be asked to provide their opinions and experiences to help guide the rest of the stakeholder engagement process during summer/fall 2019. including an online survey, focus groups, key informant interviews and regional listening sessions throughout the state. Finally, there will be an opportunity to hear from keynote speakers and experts in the field about how utilizing individuals with lived experience is a proven evidence-based practice in reducing incarceration of those with mental health needs.

The Kick-Off event is on June 20, 2019 in Sacramento (1500 Capitol Mall, East End Complex Auditorium) from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Please register at: https://ccjbh-lived-experience-kickoff-registration-link.eventbrite.com
