CARE Act Working Group Meeting

The California Health and Human Services Agency (CalHHS), in collaboration with the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and the Judicial Council of California, will be hosting the next CARE Act Working Group meeting on Wednesday, November 6th from 10 am to 3 pm, in Sacramento and via Zoom. The meeting will feature a presentation on “CARE for People with Co-Occurring Disorders” from Brian Hurley, Medical Director, Substance Abuse Prevention and Control, County of Los Angeles, Department of Public Health, followed by reflections and a discussion with Working Group members. There will also be a discussion of legislative updates and other CARE Act implementation activities. The meeting agenda, which includes a zoom link, is now posted. CARE Training and Open-Forum for Justice System Professionals

Health Management Associates, Inc., the DHCS contracted CARE Act training and technical assistance vendor, is offering a special training and open-forum on the justice system’s role in the CARE Act. This training will cover an overview of the CARE process, including eligibility, petitioning, and the benefits of CARE, with a focus on how justice system professionals can petition for involvement during community contact, court proceedings, custody, and reentry.

The training will take place on Monday, November 11th, and Tuesday, November 5th, from 10 am to 11 am, and will include a panel discussion on best practices and replicable strategies. Justice system partners are encouraged to register here.
