October 9: ECM Referral Standards and Presumptive Authorization Guidance Webinar

September 26, 2024

On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) will host an all-comer webinar on two new policies intended to make it easier for Medi-Cal Managed Care Plan (MCP) Members to be referred to and engage in Enhanced Care Management (ECM) services. Specifically, the webinar will walk attendees through the newly released ECM Referral Standards and the ECM presumptive authorization policy.

In this webinar, which will be of special interest to MCPs, providers, and organizations referring clients to ECM, DHCS leaders will provide:

  • An overview of why DHCS reforms that streamline referrals and authorizations for ECM are important for referral partners and Members.
  • An overview of the ECM Referral Standards, which standardize the set of information all MCPs will collect via ECM referrals. Effective January 2025, entities making referrals to ECM will be able to submit the same information in their ECM referrals across counties and MCPs rather than navigating different information requests across referral forms or batch templates.
  • An overview of updated requirements for Managed Care Plans (MCPs) to expand the use of ECM presumptive authorization, so more ECM Providers can start serving Members right away. Effective January 2025, select ECM Providers already contracted in an MCP’s ECM Provider network will be able to authorize ECM for Members and be paid for ECM services during a 30-day timeframe while waiting for an MCP’s authorization decision.

Advance registration is required. Register Here. Participants are invited to submit questions with their webinar registration or to CalAIMECMILOS@dhcs.ca.gov in advance of the webinar. Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions during the session.
