Opportunity for County Early Childhood Education Needs Assessment Data

October 31, 2024

In Spring 2025, the Center for the Study of Child Care Employment (CSCCE) will be surveying early educators in California. This will be a baseline survey designed to reach a representative sample of center- and home-based sites at the state and regional levels. CSCCE is inviting counties to join in this round of data collection for an oversample of their local Early Childhood Education (ECE) workforce (family child care providers, center directors, and center teachers/assistants). CSCCE will produce a county-specific profile. This data can then be used for local planning purposes, including informing county needs assessments.

Each participating county will receive a three-part profile similar to the statewide profiles from 2020:*

  • Family Child Care (FCC) Educator Profile – see statewide example from 2020
  • Center Teaching Staff Profile – see statewide example from 2020
  • ECE Program Landscape (NEW):
    • Map of supply of sites
    • Enrollment and staffing levels (include vacancies and turnover)
    • Program operations and financial stability

*CSCCE will likely use a different layout for the data in the 2025 profiles, but the topics and content will be very similar to the statewide example (for instance, demographics, education/experience, and so forth).

Counties must make a “soft commitment” to participate by November 27, 2024. Additional information on how counties can sign up, the project timeline, and the costs for counties to participate can be accessed here.
