The Agriculture, Environment, and Natural Resources (AENR) Policy
Committee continues to track legislation as they move through the
committee process.
A bill garnering interest to the AENR team is
SB 48 (Becker), which would require relevant state agencies
to develop a strategy to track and manage the energy usage and
emissions of greenhouse gases of covered buildings by January 1,
2026. A covered building under this bill is one with no
residential utility accounts and any building with five or more
active utility accounts, residential or nonresidential. The
intent is to focus on larger buildings and not those with less
than 50,000 square feet of gross floor space and are smaller
building owners or single family homes.
