Efforts to implement SB 1383, which aims to reduce organic waste
across the state, are well underway. This Fall, the Department of
Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) opened another
round of applications for the
SB 1383 Local Assistance Grant Program. Counties are eligible
to receive funding to assist with regulation requirements
associated with SB 1383, such as: capacity planning, collection,
edible food recovery, education and outreach, enforcement and
inspection, program evaluation/gap analysis, procurement
requirements, and record keeping.
The application due date is November 15, 2023. For questions,

CalRecycle will also be hosting a series of webinars for
stakeholders to learn more about SB 1383’s rules.
On Wednesday, October 11, from 1:00 – 2:00pm, CalRecycle will go
over their webpage Jurisdiction
Electronic Annual Data Reports. This website holds
self-reported data about state regulations, including county
information on SB 1383 and commercial compliance. Register

The following week on October 18, from 1:00 – 3:00pm, CalRecycle
will host a webinar on enforcement requirements and peer sharing
from jurisdictions on their enforcement processes. Register
