This week, the state’s 14-day positivity rate was standing at 3.3
percent and most counties are experiencing lower positivity
and case rates, too. As a result, the state relented on athletic
restrictions late last week, allowing most high- and
moderate-contact sports to resume with modifications in counties
in the Purple or Red tier with a case rate at or below 14 cases
per 100,000. The new rules also require weekly testing for
football, rugby, and water polo. For more information, see

Thirty-three counties at or below 14 cases per 100,000 as of
earlier this week include: Alameda, Amador, Butte,
Calaveras, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Glenn, Humboldt, Imperial,
Lassen, Los Angeles, Madera , Marin, Mariposa, Modoc, Napa,
Nevada, Orange, Placer, Plumas, San Francisco, San Luis Obispo,
San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou,
Solano, Sonoma, Trinity, Tuolumne, and Yolo.
