State Seeks Input for Proposition 1 Population-Based Prevention Strategy

December 5, 2024

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is seeking input from stakeholders to support the planning, development and implementation of its strategy for prevention programs. Proposition 1, which was passed by California voters earlier this year, includes annual funding of close to $100 million for statewide, population-based support for mental and substance use disorder prevention efforts, starting July 1, 2026.

On November 13, CPDH presented an update on its planning efforts at a meeting of the California Health and Human Services (CalHHS) Agency’s Behavioral Health Task Force. During the presentation, Task Force members and public participants had the opportunity to provide feedback and input. A video recording of the meeting and presentation materials are available on the CalHHS Behavioral Health Task Force webpage.

CDPH will be hosting an expert advisory panel, “Population-Based Behavioral Health Prevention Strategies,” on Wednesday, December 11 from 2:00 – 4:30 pm via Zoom. This online meeting is open to the public and includes time for participants’ questions and feedback. Interested attendees should register here. Additional information can be found on the CDPH Transforming Behavioral Health website.
