State Treasurer‘s Office Launches Updated Website for California’s Public Debt and Municipal Bond Issuance Data

May 2, 2024

Yesterday, the California State Treasurer’s Office launched updates to its DebtWatch website, which serves as a public database of debt issued by California governments. The site is operated by the  California Debt and Investment Advisory Commission (CDIAC), which was created to be a source of data, analysis, and education for public debt and municipal bond issuance in California.

DebtWatch can be used to find data on new debt issuance for counties, cities, special districts, Mello-Roos districts, JPA & Marks-Roos districts, the state, and our education system, including the UC, CSUs, and K-14 schools.

The updates to the DebtWatch site include:

  • Daily updates to issuance data.
  • New data sources, including issuance data, annual debt transparency, and election data.
  • A method for users to view, analyze, and export all types of debt data collected by CDIAC.
  • Customizable graphs and tables.
  • Reports that can be generated for specific issuers and across issuer groups.

CDIAC reported plans to provide additional functionality later this year.
