Suspense File: AOJ Priority Bills Held

August 15, 2024

Today, the Assembly and Senate Appropriations Committees met for the twice-annual Suspense File hearing. Two of the Administration of Justice’s (AOJ) priority opposition bills, SB 1057 (Menjivar) and AB 2882 (McCarty), were HELD in the committee and will thus NOT proceed to the floor for votes.

  • SB 1057 would dramatically recast the composition of multiagency juvenile justice coordinating councils, which are designed to develop and implement a continuum of county-based responses to addressing the needs of justice system-involved youth.
  • AB 2882 changes the composition of Community Corrections Partnerships, would specify new plan development and processing requirements at the local level, and adds considerable new Community Corrections Partnership data collection and reporting requirements.

While we anticipate we may see these bills reintroduced in upcoming legislative sessions, we thank individual counties for your engagement and advocacy efforts, which were instrumental in preventing these bills from moving forward to the Governor’s desk.
