UCSF Releases New Encampment Resolution Guide and Encampment Prioritization Tool

September 19, 2024

The University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative (BHHI) has released new resources to assist policymakers, practitioners, and community stakeholders develop encampment resolution protocols. The Encampment Resolution Guide underscores the importance of connecting unsheltered residents to housing and services when addressing homeless encampments in order to avoid future re-encampment and traumatization. The comprehensive guide includes a detailed overview of the encampment resolution protocol, the makeup of teams typically involved in a successful resolution, and a model operational protocol that jurisdictions can utilize.

UCSF BHHI also released an Encampment Prioritization Tool, which, in tandem with the Encampment Resolution Guide, is designed to help communities balance competing issues and priorities: urgently responding to encampments and all forms of homelessness, the shortage of housing and shelter resources, and the health and safety issues that encampments can represent.

UCSF BHHI will host a webinar on September 25, 2024, from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm on unsheltered homelessness and best practices for reducing it, including how communities can utilize these encampment resolution resources. Register here.
