The CARE Act Resource Center is inviting county behavioral health
agencies, counsel, judges, providers, and other stakeholders to
attend a virtual session, CARE in Practice: Housing, on
Thursday, April 3 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
This CARE in Practice session will focus on housing resources for
CARE participants. County panelists from Tuolumne, Merced, and
San Bernardino will discuss strategies for collaborating with
service providers to find and provide housing for CARE
participants, developing a sustainable continuum of housing
options, and key takeaways from their current housing efforts.

Additional training materials and resources available related to
CARE housing through the CARE Act Resource Center include:
Practical Approaches to Housing for the CARE Act: Discusses
housing models and funding sources for persons with serious
mental illness (SMI) who are experiencing housing instability,
including a discussion of the challenges.
Lessons Learned and Best Practices for Housing the CARE
Population: Revisits approaches to housing in the CARE
process, including how CARE addresses housing, an overview of
the Housing First Continuum, and considerations for supporting
housing stability for persons with SMI.
Housing, Services, & Supports Available Through the CARE
Act: Training for Supporters: Provides an overview of the
volunteer supporter’s role with regards to housing and
community supports in the CARE Act. Counties could share this
training with potential and/or approved volunteer supporters.
New Peer’s Perspective Introductory Video
A new introductory video,
How the CARE Act Can Help You Access Support and Treatment: A
Peer’s Perspective, is now available. In this video, a peer
with lived experience provides an overview of the CARE Act. The
individual shares their personal journey, emphasizing how
recovery is possible with the right support. The video also
highlights the voluntary, flexible nature of the CARE Act,
ensuring participants have a say in their care. This video can be
used by county behavioral health agencies and other stakeholders
to help individuals in the community understand CARE and consider
participating.
