Upcoming CARE Act Training and Resources

California Mental Health Services Authority (CalMHSA) CARE Act Implementation Updates Webinar – Friday, May 31 at 10 a.m.

Approximately 25 counties are part of a semi-statewide electronic health record (EHR) effort through CalMHSA. CalMHSA will be hosting a webinar on May 31st at 10 a.m. to provide an update to CalMHSA’s development work on the CARE Act. The HMA data team will also participate in this webinar. This webinar is intended for counties participating in the SmartCare EHR. For registration information, please contact EHR@calmhsa.org.

Cross-Sector Collaboration in CARE – Open-Forum Panel – Tuesday, June 11 at 12:00 pm

This open-forum panel will feature a panel of county behavioral health (BH) and court representatives from San Diego and Tuolumne. They will share best practices and lessons learned as Cohort 1 counties related to how cross-sector collaboration can be successful at all stages of CARE implementation. The discussion will cover planning, court/county BH processes and workflows, and service delivery and coordination into and out of CARE. This open-forum, scheduled for Tuesday, June 11 at 12 p.m., is intended for county BH staff and courts/counsel. Register here.

Strategies for Outreach and Engagement for County BH and Counsel/Court – Wednesday, July 10 at 9:00 am

A training for county BH and counsel/courts on Strategies for Outreach and Engagement in CARE is scheduled for Wednesday, July 10 at 9:00 a.m. During the session, presenters will offer best practices and practical strategies for effective outreach and engagement to CARE participants. All stakeholders are welcome to attend.

The subsequent open-forum discussion on Thursday, July 11 at 9:00 a.m. is intended for all stakeholders involved in the CARE Act process, including county BH agencies and counsel/courts, to ask questions, discuss topics needing clarification, and share ideas and thoughts.

New Family Resource Guide

The Family Resource Guide provides support and guidance for family members of individuals going through the CARE Act process. It contains information about formal and informal roles, provides guidance on information sharing, outlines a trauma-informed approach, includes potential action items, and outlines educational and support resources.

The Information Sharing with Family Members section of the Family Resource Guide has been published separately as a standalone brief. This brief provides guidance and advice for families related to information sharing. It discusses laws and regulations that govern information sharing. It also provides some recommendations on information that families can consider sharing.
