Upcoming CARE Act Training and Technical Assistance Events

Role of Public Guardians & Conservators in Petitioning Training and Subsequent Open-Forum – October 29 and October 30 at 12 p.m.

Public guardians and conservators are invited to a training and open-forum scheduled for Tuesday, October 29 and Wednesday, October 30 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. PT. The training will provide an overview of the CARE process and the role of public guardians and conservators. The open-forum will include a panel discussion on best practices, highlighting successful strategies that can be replicated. The training and open-forum will feature learnings from Brock Kolby (Deputy Director at Tuolumne County Behavioral Health Department) and Melody Culhane (Behavioral Health Program Manager for CARE at San Diego Behavioral Health Services).

Public guardians and conservators can register here for the training and open-forum. County behavioral health (BH) staff are encouraged to share this registration information with public guardians and conservators. Although this training focuses on county BH, public guardians, and conservators, all county CARE team members are welcome to join.

Referrals & Petitions to CARE Act from the Justice System Training and Subsequent Open-Forum – November 4 and November 5 at 10 a.m.

Eligible petitioners from the justice system are invited to a training and open-forum scheduled for Monday, November 4 and Tuesday, November 5 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. PT. The training will provide an overview of CARE and the role of the justice system in petitioning. The open-forum will include a panel discussion on best practices, highlighting successful strategies that can be replicated. The training and open-forum will feature learnings from Honorable Ebrahim Baytieh (Judge, Orange County Superior Court of California), Raul Dominguez (Manager, Stanislaus County Community Assessment Response and Engagement Team), and Polly Lin (Behavioral Health for Orange County).

Justice system staff can register here for the training and open-forum. County BH staff are encouraged to share this registration information with those working in the justice system.  

Additional TA Office Hours

The CARE Training and Technical Assistance team will be facilitating a series of informal office hours for county BH with subject matter experts (SMEs) from county teams and representatives from HMA’s legal and data teams, Judicial Council of California (JC), and other key partners. Upcoming topics include legislative updates on Senate Bill (SB) 42 and SB 1400 and implementation support. These sessions will be valuable opportunities to engage with SMEs and other county BH and court staff, ask questions, and share best practices.
