Description:
POSITION: The Assistant Director—PWA, reporting to the Agency Director, will oversee the Roads & Transportation, Water & Sanitation, and Watershed Protection departments, managing 80% of the Agency’s workforce. This role focuses on enhancing collaboration among operations and supporting Department Directors in project advancement. Responsibilities include maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, delivering presentations, and potentially acting as Agency Director in their absence. The ideal candidate will have leadership experience in relevant fields, strong strategic planning and project management skills, and the ability to communicate complex information effectively. A collaborative leader, they should thrive in a fast-paced environment, turning strategy into measurable outcomes, particularly in a public sector unionized organization. Qualifications:
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience which has led to the acquisition of the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities. The required knowledge, skills and abilities also can be obtained by graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and ten (10) years progressive management experience, including a minimum of three (3) years at the executive level.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession and maintenance of a valid California driver license. Current California Professional Civil Engineering license issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. An incumbent possessing an out-of-state registration is eligible for hire, however, must obtain California registration within 18 months of employment.
DESIRED: A Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Engineering or related field is desired.
