Description:
The Controller is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for CSAC and related entities. This role oversees the preparation of financial statements, monitors the financial status of the Association, and assists with developing strategies to mitigate risks. The Controller will establish and enforce accounting policies and procedures, ensure compliance with financial regulations and consult with management, external advisors and auditors. They are also responsible for training new accounting staff and delegating administrative tasks.
Job Duties:
- Prepare/review financial statements for CSAC and related entities.
- Report on financial status on a regular basis and create additional reports as needed.
- Prepare the annual budget, periodic budget reports, and maintain budgetary control.
- Review reconciliations for bank and general ledger accounts.
- Manage cash flow and investment strategies to maximize growth of accumulated funds.
- Supervise and train accounting staff in proper financial record keeping procedures.
- Review the work of accounting staff to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.
- Plan and direct annual audit with the external auditors.
- Consult with external advisors for specific regulatory questions and issues.
- Document, monitor and update accounting policies and procedures.
- Maintain and nurture banking relationships.
- Interpret complex laws and regulations and apply them to relevant accounting records, fiscal operations, and personnel policies.
- Exercise sound judgment on fiscal and administrative issues.
- Analyze usage and cost of employee benefits and make recommendations for improvements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Required:
- Proficiency in using computers and related software, including Microsoft Office, QuickBooks Online and spend management systems (e.g., Ramp, Expensify, etc.).
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, procedures, and applicable legislation.
- Familiarity with GAAP Not-For-Profit standards
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management and risk assessment.
- Experience with budgeting and financial analysis.
- Payroll / Human resources procedures
Skills Required:
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in calculating, recording, and balancing transactions.
- Capability to operate accounting software and standard office equipment to record, store, and analyze information.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business/Accounting
- 10+ years of accounting experience, including supervisory roles
- Master’s Degree or CPA License a plus
