Description:

Calaveras County is seeking online applications and resumes from qualified individuals for Director of the Health and Human Services Agency. Under general policy direction, plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the activities and programs of the County’s Health and Human Services Agency, and provides expert professional assistance to County management staff in areas of responsibility.

The County of Calaveras was created in 1850 as one of California’s original counties. The historic gold rush towns offer a glimpse into California’s diverse past and provide modern-day residents and visitors with recreational activities year-round. Our four seasons offer fishing, hunting, biking, camping, water sports at nine public lakes, snow sports including world class skiing, caves, golfing at six beautify championship courses, quaint towns with a variety of restaurants,museums, wineries, historical landmarks, and much more.

With a population of over 45,000 residents, the County encompasses 1,000 square miles stretching from the northcentral valley to the Sierra Nevada mountains. There are no freeways or interstates in Calaveras County. Historic Highway 49 runs through the county connecting its towns people. Sacramento is just 75 miles to the northwest, San Francisco is 135 miles to the west and Yosemite is a beautiful 2-hour drive southeast. Angels Camp is the only incorporated city and is famous for being the setting of Mark Twain’s short story “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.”

Qualifications:

Where college degrees and/or college course credits are required, degrees and college units must be obtained from an accredited college or university. Courses from non-accredited institutions will not be evaluated for the requirement.
 
Education:
 Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business or public administration, gerontology, social services, psychology, public health or a related field.  Possession of a Master’s Degree in the fields listed above is strongly preferred.

 -AND-

Experience: At least eight (8) years of increasingly responsible management level experience in a public agency, preferably over mental health, public health, community services, social services or similar setting which has included planning, implementation, and administration.
