School & College Legal Services of California (SCLS) is seeking a collaborative, forward-thinking legal leader to serve as its next General Counsel. This senior management role is the chief attorney for our mission-driven public law firm, providing critical legal services to school districts, community colleges, and educational agencies throughout California.

As General Counsel, you’ll oversee all legal services, supervise a talented team of attorneys and professional staff, and provide direct legal guidance in areas such as governance, labor and employment, policy development, and regulatory compliance. You’ll also guide the strategic vision of the firm, set agency-wide goals, and play a key role in supporting public education.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • 8–10 years of legal practice (public entity and education law experience preferred)
  • Active California Bar membership
  • Deep understanding of public education law and policy
  • Exceptional judgment, strategic insight, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience leading teams and managing complex legal issues
