CA Counties Have Another Leader at National Level
Staff here at CSAC that have the pleasure of working with Phil Demery, Sonoma County Director of the Department of Transportation and Public Works, are excited to share the news that he was sworn in as president of the National Association of County Engineers (NACE) last week during the NACE Annual Conference in Ft. Worth, Texas. He joins Sonoma County Supervisor Valerie Brown, as a president of a national association; Valerie, of course, is the current President of the National Association of Counties (NACo).

Having two national presidents concurrently presents a unique opportunity for California to influence the policy making process in Washington D.C. and around the nation, especially related to transportation as Congress continues to discuss the next federal transportation reauthozation bill. Phil will be a great asset to NACE, his colleagues in California, and CSAC staff on important transportation issues such as safety, bridges, and sustainable revenues streams within the context of federal authorization.
Governor Schwarzenegger noted Phil’s accomplishment with a Press Release touting his great contributions to the public works profession, “Phil Demery has been a great county public works director who has demonstrated passion for his work, and I congratulate him on this much-deserved presidency. Phil shares my commitment to building up our state and nation’s infrastructure and I look forward to seeing the kind of action he produces in this new leadership position.”
Congratulations, Phil!
