For the past few months, CSAC has been taking a close look at how counties are successfully implementing public safety realignment. We have undertaken a video series titled “Smart Justice” that spotlights counties’ best practices in dealing with AB 109 offenders.

Our journey has taken us to 10 counties, ranging from the urban setting of San Diego County to the rural areas of Colusa and Glenn Counties. Other counties we have worked in include Contra Costa, Marin, Merced, San Bernardino, San Joaquin, San Mateo and Ventura. 

During this journey, we have interviewed probation officers, county department heads, community members and numerous offenders. What we are learning is that the programs counties are putting in place as a result of AB 109 are working.
