CSAC Releases Statement on California Supreme Court’s Review of the Taxpayer Deception Act

CSAC Chief Executive Officer Graham Knaus released the following statement following oral arguments before the California Supreme Court on the Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability Act, otherwise known as the Taxpayer Deception Act.
“The needs of California’s 58 counties are as unique as their varied geography and storied histories. The Taxpayer Deception Act severely limits local governments’ autonomy in deciding how to finance essential county services, from public health and safety to emergency response to environmental protection efforts. We are confident the Supreme Court will see this measure for what it is – an unconstitutional restraint on Californians ability to self-govern.”
