How to Help October Fire Victims
Neighbor-to-Neighbor Help Needed in Disaster Recovery
October 13, 2017
Many of our friends, neighbors and colleagues have been impacted this week by the worst firestorm in California history. Lives have been lost and thousands of homes have been destroyed. Many people are still waiting in evacuation centers to see if they have homes to return to. It will be a long process to rebuild. Please click here for the current fires in California.
It is in times of crisis and need that we see the best of human nature. There have been many heroes this week, from the first responders to many community leaders and neighbors. Some people who have lost their own homes are working to render aid and comfort to others.
It is in this spirit that we offer a list of organizations that could use your help as they provide help to others during this time of crisis—organizations like the Red Cross and Salvation Army. However, we have also tried to provide information for local agencies in the impacted counties.
While it is tempting to donate clothing, toiletries or other necessities, the need and location of the need can change rapidly. It is typically more efficient to make a monetary donation and allow the relief organization to purchase what is needed locally as the need arises.
Please do what you can to help your neighbors in need.
