Kirola v. City and County of San Francisco (14-17521)
This case will examine precisely what is required under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to provide disabled access to public facilities. San Francisco adopted a detailed, comprehensive and well-funded facilities access program, but plaintiff filed this action arguing that not every facility was fully accessible. CSAC’s amicus brief supports the argument that the ADA requires meaningful access, but a few isolated examples of access barriers in a particular neighborhood do not demonstrate an ADA violation. The brief was drafted by Tim Coates of Greines, Martin, Stein & Richland in Los Angeles.
