NACo Releases Summer Advocacy Toolkit
The National Association of Counties (NACo) has released its 2017 Summer Advocacy Toolkit to provide county officials with tools and resources that will help them better advocate for their county.
With the 2017 legislative calendar quickly coming to an end, talk in the nation’s capital has shifted to concerns over enacting “must pass” appropriations bills and other major legislation pursued by the new Trump Administration and new Congress. Leaders are working on many issues important to our nation’s counties, and will take action on several of them in the coming months. This is why it is so critical to meet with your members of Congress over the summer and into the fall.
Between now and the end of the year, federal lawmakers plan to spend several weeks back in their home districts and states, including much of the month of August. These district or state work periods, particularly the one occurring in August, provide county officials with a unique opportunity to visit with members of Congress and showcase your county.
To assist you in making the most of this opportunity, the National Association of Counties (NACo) has prepared a toolkit that provides updated information on some of the most pressing federal legislative and regulatory issues facing the nation’s counties. It also contains helpful tips for communicating with members of Congress and the media. If you do not already have plans to meet with your senators and representative(s) while they are home, NACo is encouraging you to reach out to their offices and request meetings.
