Profiles in Leadership
Sacramento County Supervisor Phil Serna
August 19, 2021
CSAC is only as strong as its membership. This week’s Profiles in Leadership spotlights Sacramento County Supervisor Phil Serna, who is currently in his third term as Board Supervisor for District 1. Supervisor Serna is currently Sacramento County’s alternate on CSAC’s Board of Directors and he also previously served on CSAC’s Housing, Land Use and Transportation Policy Committee. Supervisor Serna is passionate about public service, reducing child death disparities, protecting natural resources, and responsively and effectively representing his constituents. He has always been willing to stand up for statewide county priorities.
Most recently, Supervisor Serna was honored by the Health Policy Steering Committee Meeting at the National Association of Counties’ 2021 Annual Meeting for his continued work and advocacy on health equity. Supervisor Serna was also a founding member of the Latino Caucus of California County and currently serves on multiple committees and boards for Sacramento County, such as the California Air Resources Board, First 5 Sacramento Commission, Agency on Aging/Area 4 and more.
Growing up in Sacramento’s Curtis Park and being the son of Sacramento’s first Latino mayor, Joe Serna, Jr., Supervisor Serna developed an appreciation for public service at a young age and his humble beginnings shaped his desire to serve. Thank you, Supervisor Serna, for your ongoing leadership on behalf of California Counties.
