Scott H. De Moss, County Administrative Officer
Glenn County
March 1, 2021
What motivated you to enter public service?
When I was younger, my father worked for the Housing Authority. I saw how he and his team were able to help people find affordable housing and were able to make specialty housing available to those most vulnerable and in need. I wanted to have a job that made a difference for others and saw county government as an opportunity to do so.
Is your glass half-full, or half-empty?
My glass is half-full and ready to overflow. I have found Glenn County to be a truly wonderful place to work and comprised of people throughout our county who are both warm and welcoming. This is a great place to be and I am very excited to be here.
What’s your proudest professional or personal accomplishment?
I am very proud of a wellness program I helped build from the ground-up. I was able to work with employees from various departments to set up an employee-run wellness program. The program resulted in an increased awareness of healthy living and we even held some cross-departmental competitions. The fun activities and education sessions let employees know how important they are to the county. We saw a real surge in interest and morale.
What’s your favorite movie of all time?
My favorite movie of all time is Star Wars: A New Hope. This was the start of the franchise and is still my favorite to watch. Another favorite movie to watch is The Goonies.
Do you have any words of advice for someone interested in becoming a CAO?
I think that being a CAO is a tough but rewarding road. Preparing yourself to work collaboratively with others is important. This job cannot be done without the input and support of others. I always suggest getting a road map and asking for help to chart the path. We all can see where we want to go, but there are many ways to get there.
