Sexual Harassment Prevention Training Guidelines
Dec. 6, 2018
Guidelines to implement sexual harassment prevention training requirements for non-supervisorial positions are available from the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) following the enactment of Senate Bill 1343 (Mitchell) last year. It includes a toolkit of resources and sample trainings as well procedures for compliance by the January 2020 deadline for employers with five or more employees.
It should be noted that the implementation as interpreted by DFEH requires back-to-back trainings for employers who offered trainings in 2018 under the previously established bi-annual training calendar for supervisory positions and elected officials. CSAC is working with the Legislature to clarify this point and uphold the bi-annual schedule. While CSAC supported the final version of SB 1343 and continues to support efforts to provide a safe working environment for all employees, the use of local resources for potentially redundant trainings will need to be addressed.
