Thompson v. Park (17-294)
CSAC has filed a brief urging the United States Supreme Court to grant review of a case that raises the issue of whether an acquittal in a criminal action defeats a civil claim against the prosecutor alleging an unfair criminal trial. CSAC’s brief argues that allowing such claims to go forward when the person was acquitted in the criminal trial would entangle police officers and other members of the prosecution team in lengthy, complex litigation without advancing any interest served by the underlying constitutional provisions. The brief was drafted by Timothy Coates at Greins, Martin, Stein & Richland in Los Angeles.
