The following statement is from CSAC Executive Director Matt Cate.
“California Counties congratulate the Governor and Legislature for reaching agreement on a budget that was passed by both houses of the Legislature this evening. The budget headed to the Governor meets the needs of the state for this coming year and also for the less-than-certain future. We are especially pleased that the budget results in a relatively small cost shift in the coming year for In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) to counties, a significant improvement over the January budget which had proposed to shift $600 million in costs to counties. While fiscal prudence is once again driving this budget, counties will see continued support for local public safety priorities, relief from the Board of Equalization’s misallocation of funds to counties and support for county welfare-to-work activities.”
