Getting to Know CSAC Accountant Kat Lumabas
March 31, 2022
CSAC accountant Kat Lumabas started with the Association Sept. 2021 and plays an integral role in the function of the organization. Kat has an impressive skillset and performs several duties that keep CSAC moving forward.
Originally from the Bay Area, Kat worked in the psychology industry before switching to a career in accounting. Kat’s accounting background spans six years and ranges from hotels to healthcare.
CSAC recently had the pleasure of learning more about Kat’s background, goals, and motivations. Below are her responses.
Q: Please share a little bit about yourself.
I recently moved to Sacramento from the Bay Area. I am a mother of two precious girls and I am an aspiring chef. While I am not as good as hope to be, that doesn’t stop me from creating “special” recipes. Hehe! I am a natural foodie and I enjoy travelling and visiting family and friends.
I used to work in the psychology industry but by familial influence and a change of heart, I switched careers to accounting. I have been in accounting for almost six years and have experience working in hotels, restaurants, healthcare and real estate property management. I received a degree in accounting, business administration, economics and psychology at Mission College. I’m currently pursuing further studies at Sacramento State University.
Q: What do you do for CSAC? What is your position title?
I am an accountant at CSAC. I do accounting duties such as full cycle accounts payable, account reconciliation, general ledger entries and ad hoc jobs per our financial controller.
Q: What are you looking forward to while working at CSAC?
I feel honored to be a part of the team. It makes such a difference to me to support such great causes for the wellbeing of the counties and the people of California.
I am excited to learn from everyone, whether they’re from my department or another. I am inspired by the leadership and the amazing support system that CSAC has, and I am hoping that I get to nurture my skillset through them.
Q: Do you have any work goals for the year?
Since I am new, my main goal is to get mentorship and hopefully be a better support to my team. I want to focus on increasing skills for my current position and later on, learning workflow systems to aid in efficiency for myself and my colleagues.
Q: What are you currently reading or watching?
Most of the time, I feel like my talent is Karaoke singing. I am not the best, but it brings out my social skills during family events. That’s the thing with Karaoke, it’s always fun!
Q: What is a hobby you like to do?
I love playing video games with my friends, that is my best antistressor. But lately, I have been spending more paint nights with my daughters and niece.
Q: What is your proudest accomplishment?
My daughters will always be my greatest achievement. Being a mother, is such a blessing and I am very grateful for having them. My girls always bring out the best version of myself.
The second achievement I am proud of is being able to brave storms in my life and getting back on my feet when it seemed impossible.
Q: What motivates you to work hard?
When I feel like giving up sometimes, I always think about my dad, Max. He was a single father, and I have always admired how he had a trying heart filled with good intentions for his children. Having my own children, thinking of him reminds me to always try my best. I am excited to wake up and develop myself to my fullest potential for them.
