Almost two years ago I wrote in this blog about a small boat that
had washed ashore in Del Norte County. There is nothing unusual
about that up here on the North Coast, but there was something
special about this small boat called a “panga.” Here’s what I
wrote about it back in April of 2013:
When I was sworn in as CSAC President last fall, I declared that
I wanted my term to be known as the “Year of the Child.” I

A small fishing boat recently washed up on shore near Crescent
City California, where I have the privilege to live and the honor
to serve on the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors. There is

Several California Counties will lose critical federal funding to
keep our schools open and roads paved, unless the federal
government reauthorizes their decades long commitment to
communities with federal forest land. The Secure Rural
Schools and Community Self Determination Act may be little known,
but it is a key fixture in a county’s ability to provide the most
basic services to those that work and live in a rural area.
You can get involved now by contacting Congress and urging them
to support this vital program for America’s rural
communities.
